Welcome To The Pacha Mama Art Gallery - Bienvenidos A La Galeria De Pacha Mama

I like to paint and draw in different styles. I mainly use acrylic paints on canvas and pastels.

For some pieces I try to accurately capture the image of the person or animal in a realistic form.  This is the more protrait like part of my work.  I like to do portraits of peoples beloved animals and hand to them an image that is lifelike and true to their friend.

Another aspect of my work is more symbolic and free.  In these I like to play with images and ideas about myself or others and the paintings usualy unfold as they go along.  There is never a definite time when they are finished as the painting sort of has a life of its own depending on the person or animal and what needs to be said in the picture.  I like to call these dreamtime pictures as they are surreal and often dreamlike in appearance and often they come from the subconscious mind.  My job is to try to bring forth in picture form symbols and colours, feelings and moods that are useful to the person or animal at that time, so that they may continue on with life but in a deeper and richer way.  Oftentimes I sit with my horse herd and they may also contribute to the picture as they are more connected to source.

If you are interested in seeing more of my work or in commisioning a dreamtime painting please contact me.

I work on an individual painting by painting basis and all my work fees are negotible and based on an exchange system.

For more information please contact me on v.macdonald6@gmail.com.

I beleive everyone who wants to should have access to my work and so I am very flexible.

NEW FOR 2010!!!!

This year I am offering new sets of oracle cards.

The first one is CIRCLE OF WOMEN

it is a set of 30 original cards of my work and comes with a booklet of poems and affirmations.

It can be used on a daily basis to obtain a relevant affirmation for the day

Or it can be used in the form of an oracle and spread out like a tarrot and used for guidance on specific topics.

The second set is HORSES OF DREAMTIME

it is based on the horses that have come into my life and the teachings I have learned from them.

It relates strongly to the woman's journey.

PACHA MAMA

Pacha Mama, in the form of a woman. Atop the cordillera she sits surveying the landscape. The butterflies suggest movement, life, metamorphosis and transformation. They take flight, they are rich in colour and are surreal in appearance. Joyous as they flutter in the sun. The pacha mama woman is a representation of the femenine spirit who is awakening, who is gestating and bringing forth new feelings and ideas. Who is dreaming of a new world and its birth.

BUTTERFLY
"Mariposa"

Mariposa painted in 2006.
Pacha Mama woman sits in contemplation. In this act there is recognition of something more. A part of her that has been tamed and domesticated. Somewhat like a dream, her truth is revealed to her. All the feelings of separation and doubt fade away as they are unmasked as illusions. Because her real self is in attunement, in tune with the song of the universe, everything else is just an illusion. She sees her true light, all her possibilities, all her dreams within reach. She contemplates this moment, will she or won't she. The wild woman is calling, in her throat an answer is longing to burst forth in song. The ulisys butterfly perched on her hand awaitng her signal to initiate the metamorphosis and show her the way, show her how to fly.

AMBER

Amber the white mare. The image of the Goddes Epona. She came to me in the flesh in 2005. A crippled emaciated mare who was discarded. My fist horse friend, whe taught me about communion, connection, the feminine and the circle of life. With her came the flower. She was creation, she birthed a son, I had just given birth to a daughter. I realized that we were cocreators, we were both one and the same. This idea reawakened the flower of life in me and the feeling of creating or birthing a new life for myself. Of being one with the great mother and helping her birth a new world.

Photo

ELMO

On day I met a horse named Elmo. An injured and emaciated exracehorse. He was a red giant. Glorious in his power. With him I faced my pain and my greatest fears of the past. With him I faced everything that had stagnated inside me and was threatening to become cancerous. I even faced the fear of insanity of the mind. I had become so incongruent, so dissasociated from myself that I felt nothing either in my heart or in my body. He encouraged me to ride him, bareback and bitless. I did not know how but I trusted him and he taught me. This image is a representation of a moment in time when we were as one, powerful and alive, creating the world together.
Saddly Elmo was not able to stay long with me and passed away but our last year together showed me the way from fear into heart and most importantly into freedom for both of us.

MOTHER MARE
"Madre Yegua"

An image of a woman and a mare. An image of Amber. In this moment she had become like a mother to me. She represented the whole idea and feeling of mother, of home, something which I had not had for many years. At this time I was distanced from my own mother, from the earth and from myself. She taught me with love and we had many moments like the one in this painting where she would heal me and bring together all of the pieces I had lost along the way in life so that I could finally understand the feeling 'mother' on a grander scale and come to realize that I too was 'mother' and my life was sacred.

GO TO THE TREE
"Anda Al Arbol"

Pacha Mama woman has found sanctuary. When she is fragmented, when she is lonely and afraid she goes to the tree. There in its branches she is held, she is gently lulled by the wind and the leaves sing to her. In this great tree she has found a safe place from her life, something which she has never had. In the lap of this tree she has found comfort and solace. Here it is safe to see herself. From here it is safe to acknowledge the wild woman inside of her. Here has been created a 'meeting' place for all her women to meet and acknowledge each other.

Photo

BIRTH
"Nacimiento"

Pacha Mama woman, red and gold. Birth, transformation, new life. There is intensity and power, she is floating in a golden field, holding out her new creation, in this case a daughter, to the universe, to the source. There is sacredness and magic in this powerful moment. Her whole body has contracted and moved to primal forces and rhythms, there has been pain and now extacy. Surrender and allow yourself to trust in the flow, attune to the great mother, she will lead the way.

Photo

MOTHER
"Madre"

Oh great Mother, here is your daughter with her new born. In this case pacha mama woman has birthed her first born, a son. There is a magical and mystical mood to this birth, the atmosphere is purple and gold, she is turquoise and gold. A representation of the first moments of motherhood, the first trasition from girl into woman. My first offering to the Earth.

Photo

DANCE WOMAN, DANCE.
"Baila mujer, baila"

Inspired by the wind in her hair, moved by the butterflies, pacha mama woman is dancing. Her dress is red, there is passion, abandonment and release. She is free. Her eyes are closed in deep surrender to her mother, the earth, her movements are wild and unplanned. There is only feeling in this moment. There is only 'one'.

Photo

REST WOMAN, REST.
"Reposa mujer, reposa"

And now pacha mama woman has stopped. Her colours have changed and she is in green and turquoise. Her body has lain down in the long grass and the butterflies gently caress her. She has thrown herself with abandon on the earth, exhausted from her wild dance. And now in the stillness, there is still only 'one'.

MIA

Once upon a time I knew a mare named Mia, which in Spanish means Mine. She had been 'owned' many times, she had been used and abused. Her body now broken, her spirit in tatters she was thrown away. She came into my life and taught me the meaning of gentleness, of being with, of not expecting. She taught me the value of simply holding the space.
In this moment I have captured an event that took my breath away. Mia looked at me for the first time. Mia let me touch and embrace her for the first time. This moment took nearly a year but from then on she and I were free.
Her spirit and mine had come together because we both knew the pain and suffering that man can inflict. She could not protect herself, she could not stop what man was doing to her, she was a victim. So to was I up until this point. And then on this fine day, with a simple act of eye contact, I knew she 'saw' me and I 'saw' her and we were no longer victims of abuse, we were survivors and more than that we were free to choose. We were powerful. We had been absolved.

CANDY GIRL
"Dulce Nina"

Here is a scene that was wonderful in its revelation. So simple and yet so profound.
Pacha mama woman meets Candy Girl. She is as her name suggests, a robust, matronly mare of experience and wisdom. But she does not suffer fools. She seems on the surface to be the 'bomb proof' begginers horse.
In this moment Candy reveals her 'truth' to me and we can only walk together if I am willing to listen. If I am willing to be the student and bow my ego to a greater force. In this moment I have accepted and I have been tamed by a horse.

Photo

CREATION

Blue Pacha Mama Woman and Pacha Mama Man. Conception, pregnancy, creation. In this moment there is balance between the two forces that have cocreated. Male and female in attunement and harmony. Their colours are ultramarine blue and gold the space around them is golden yellow. There is great energy and power surging in this moment.

LIFE IN A FISH BOWL
"La Vida En Una Pesera"

Oh great woman, what has become of you? Living in a life of luxury, in a fishbowl, enclosed and an adornment.
The great waters have come to release her, in their flow she is freed. There is movement, suggested by the swirling waters that are turning into torrents, no longer is her spirit still and safe, there is a great wave of feeling engulfing her, taking her to a new place. The fish are accompanying her leading the way out. It is a hard decision. Stay with what is known and safe or flow with the waters where it is unknown and deep and wild.

Photo

THE DREAMER
"La Sonadora"

Here is a woman, in feotal position. She is dreaming suspended in the void which is now blue in colour. Something is emerging as the void is no longer black and lifeless. Something is being created and comming into manifestation.
And so the dreamer, is creating her life. Reweaving the fabric of her own reality into all that she wishes it to be, she is now in allignment and attunement with the great mother and they are birthing together.

Photo

WILD HARIED
"Chascona"

Pacha Mama woman is enflamed. Her hair is on fire and alive. Her body is golden flame. Yet the tree is supporting her unharmed by her heat and intensity. The earth is represented by the green mountains and the blue sky. At this moment her feelings have run away from her, they are out of control and raging. She seeks solace in the arms of her great tree but ultimately the responsibility is hers. She must learn to attune and transform those feelings, that energy. The earth as always has offered to help. There is still much work to be done.

Photo

In God's Eyes
"En Los Ojos De Dios"

Oh my beloved Pacha Mama Woman. When everything is collapsing and faith is waning what else is there but to sit and surrender in God's grace. In this moment of great surrender and exhasperation she realizes that she is loved and this is what she must look like in God's eyes. We are all the same in God's eyes, no one more or less all loved, all one.

Photo

BUTTERFLY TREE
"El Arbol de las Mariposas"

Here in the evening, wind blowing her long hair, Pacha Mama Woman is witnessing. The scene before her is quite miraculous. Her beloved tree is comming to life, it is reawakening from winters sleep and instead of leaves unfolding there are butterflies. The butterflies unfold and then they are free to take off. They are not bound to the tree. Some stay and adorn the tree and share their existance, while others take flight and head for unknown places. It does not matter, one decision is no better than the other, it simply is and all is perfect.
So the woman watches and the scene stirs something within her, should she fly or stay.

Photo

Rise Sun
"Amanece Sol"

Pacha Mama Woman sits in contemplation. In the lap of the great mother, rolling hills and deep fertile valleys everything she has created to this point appears. Her beloved friend, the tree, supports her and although she sits on the earth entwined in its roots, the butterfly has now moved on to her throat and become a living necklace. She now has the power of speach and her truth is proclaimed to the world. And so she sits on her tree throne and awaits the new day. She has created in unison with Mother all night and now it is time for it all to manifest. So rise sun, so that I may live!

Photo

HERE I AM
"Aqui Estoy"

Here is a proclimation to the world, to God and to Mother. Here I Am. Pacha Mama Woman is no longer afraid, she wants to be seen and so she has lain herself, bare, on the earth. All at once she is vulnerable yet strong, innocent and worldly, simple yet knowledgeable. The grass around her embraces her and the earth opens up to hold her. She is one, she is in harmony and in power. And so she affirms, Here I am, waiting for you, I am open. Come sit in my heart.

Photo

MAN
"Hombre"

One day the woman sees her man sitting, staring at the sky. She goes to him. He is waiting. Watching a storm brewing on the horizon. All at once she sees. This is what is has been like for him. All this time she has been persuing herself, trying to balance, trying to be. And for all her efforts she had lost him somewhere, out there.
He does not know who she is now, he is unsure of what to do.
Once again there is a choice presented to the woman. Choice is not whether she should fly or not, fore she has already taken flight, the choice is whether she brings him with her, or whether she can convince him to come.

Photo

The Lovers
"Los Amantes"

The woman chooses to ask the man to come with her. But he is unsure. He is afraid. The woman standing before him is not the one he married. He is hurt and stunned. So she chooses to bring him back to her. In that moment she sings to him and reminds him of their love. She brings in her tree, which has taken the form of an apple tree and there on the mountain top she reaffirms her love for him. As he responds and they entwine so too does the earth respond and the grass and the roots wrap around them. Like the first man and woman, they affirm to the heavens that they are lovers. Not because they have to but because they choose to.
